Announcing the Birth of Harris Theodore Rabin and My Paternity Leave
I could not be prouder to announce the birth of Harrison Theodore Rabin, who entered this sick, sad, beautiful, beautiful world at 10:22 July the 5th, weighing a sturdy eight pounds and three ounces. I may be biased, but I think he’s quite possibly the most gorgeous baby in the history of the universe, with the possible exception of his older brother Declan.
How does this affect you? Well, with Nathan Rabin’s Happy Place I am for the most part my own boss, so I asked myself for ten days of paternity leave and was all, "You got it, buddy!" But I also work for readers, particularly the kind-hearted folks who make the site commercially viable by donating money to its Patreon.
I genuinely think of this website as my baby. That might sound corny or embarrassing, but it's true. But right now my other, more literal babies are quite literally crying out for my attention so I’m planning on giving myself a two-week paternity leave so that I can be as present and involved in my son’s early life as possible.
In that time I’m going to run golden classics from the site’s past, including a re-run of my entire ten entry series on the big Cannon box set. I can’t imagine a better way to honor the birth of an adorable baby boy than by revisiting the era of Chuck Norris killing terrorists in dad jeans with rocket launchers.
I haven’t really had anything resembling a break since Christmas, so I’m hoping to be able to work ahead a little during the paternity leave.
So I’m asking you, my external bosses, who make this site possible with your financial contributions, to please not delete your pledges during the break. Also, if you’ve signed up for a Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 and I haven’t written up your movie yet, rest assured that I will definitely get to it in the not too distant future. I’ve already written up fourteen films for Control Nathan Rabin 4.0, and plan to publish two a week upon my return until I’ve worked my way through the backlog.
Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 is the engine that has driven the site forward financially but we haven’t had a new Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 pledge in a while so if you’d like to take this time to choose a movie for me to watch and write about, and help support my growing family in the process, it would be beyond groovy.
I am overjoyed to be a dad a second time, so don’t be surprised if there’s more daddy blogging in the not too distant future.
Who knows, this may even prompt me to finally check out that Sesame Street show I hear about.
Apparently the kids dig it!
I’m going to try to put out a Happy Cast on schedule but that depends on how the first few weeks of Harris’ life turn out.
Yay! Babies are amazing, whether they're metaphorical or delightfully literal.
If you’re thinking of honoring this auspicious occasion, I am forever accepting donations over at https://www.patreon.com/nathanrabinshappyplace it’d be nothing short of
