The Hardcover, Full Color Version of The Weird A-Coloring to Al is Out and It is AMAZING!
When I was conceiving my very first coloring book, the “Weird Al” Yankovic-themed sleeper hit The Weird A-Coloring to Al, I had a kooky, ambitious idea. My brilliant illustrator Felipe Sobreiro was, and is, a colorist by trade and I thought it would be a waste if he wasn’t able to use that particular talent on The Weird A-Coloring to Al.
Then again the whole idea of a coloring book is that YOU have to color it. That’s the point! Coloring books are, by design, cheap, disposable and inexpensive. They’re made to be used carelessly then tossed in the garbage.
My counter-intuitive brainstorm was to create a coloring book that was collectible, expensive and most of all, already colored-in.
Felipe was on board so The Weird A-Coloring to Al, a coloring book in the conventional sense, gave birth to The Weird A-Coloring to Al: Colored-In Special Edition.
When I got Felipe to do a hardcover, full-color version of The Weird A-Coloring to Al with me Amazon was not doing hardcover and all the independent printers I checked out seemed to print either 100 books or 500, which was not ideal for a book that sold about 120 copies in the Kickstarter for The Weird A-Coloring to Al.
Thankfully Amazon has started doing hardcover books. But because it takes in the area of three weeks to a month to print up new color, hardcover books, when I pressed the “publish hardcover” button on the special edition, hardcover, colored version of The Weird A-Coloring to Al I had no idea whether I would be happy with the product and if I waited three to four weeks for my first proof to come in I would miss the Christmas season entirely.
I pressed “publish” anyway and am pleased to report that the book that ensued surpassed my wildest expectations. It is a thing of beauty, absolutely gorgeous, a book you would never imagine was self-published.
I didn’t want to promote the Colored-In Special Edition version of The Weird A-Coloring to Al until I knew for myself that it was something I wanted to be associated with for eternity.
I am beyond pleased with The Weird A-Coloring to Al: Colored-In Special Edition. I implore you to buy it from me through the Happy Place shop, so that you get one of the limited edition copies that are signed (by both Felipe and myself) and numbered to 270 and come with a certificate of authenticity AND a 5 by 7 card designed by Felipe Sobreiro and signed by myself and either Felipe or “Weird Al” Yankovic himself.
That’s right: I got Al to sign 40 cards to randomly insert in orders for the book. Buy now and you have a better than one in six chance of getting one of these spiffy cards.
But that’s not all! Because Amazon is now doing hardcovers you can also buy The Weird Accordion to Al and The Weird Accordion to Al: Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Edition in hardcover as well, either separately or as a set!
If you REALLY need a hardcover and you don’t want to wait you can order these books from Amazon and have them delivered by Christmas.
In conclusion, (Jay Sherman voice) buy my books! They’re all great and now they’re hardcover as well!
