THESE Are Your Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 Kickstarter Choices!
I was lucky in that when I worked for The A.V. Club and The Dissolve all that I had to do was write. That was my job. I was a writing machine, a frighteningly prolific workaholic who needed to write, and write voluminously, in order to stay sane.
I wrote. Other people were in charge of making sure that the website made money and attracted an audience and made an indelible cultural imprint. I was very happy to have other people do the many different kinds of jobs involved in running a successful website.
That, alas, is not true of Nathan Rabin’s Happy Place. At the Happy Place, my primary job, and one that I do with enormous pleasure, is to write. That’s what I love. That’s why I got into this dirty, sometimes impossible-seeming business. But I have a fuck-ton of secondary jobs as well.
My eminently capable sister-in-law Romy Maloon helps, but I hold things down on the technical side of this website from day to day. And it is my job to handle one hundred percent of the business side of the Happy Place. I’m also the in-house publicist for the Happy Place and Declan-Haven Books because if I’m not out there loudly advocating on behalf of my wares no one else would.
In a desperate bid to keep the lights on and remain in business I introduced a column called Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 a few years back that allows readers/patrons to choose a movie that I must watch and then write about in exchange for anywhere between sixty-five dollars.
This column has been one of the site’s biggest success and most consistent money earner. I’ve now written up 254 Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 entries so it is hard to overstate its importance to the site and its future.
Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 makes the all-importance difference between struggling constantly and just barely getting by and failure.
Yet it is a source of persistent frustration as well because while I write LOTS of Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 pieces I don’t always go about executing the column in the most organized, methodical and efficient manner.
In fact I can be downright sloppy. So in an effort to do better this upcoming year I figured that I would create a blog post containing all of the choices of the patrons who chose the Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 options for The Joy of Trash Kickstarter that allowed kind souls to choose a film for me to watch and write about in addition to a signed copy of The Joy of Trash for seventy-five or eighty-five dollars. Incidentally, that option is still up at Backerkit if you want to take advantage of it! It’s quite a bargain considering that The Joy of Trash is maybe the greatest book ever written.
By me at least!

If you want to tardily take advantage of the Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 option via Kickstarter, which you totally can still do, I will instantly add your choice to this blog post.
This is gonna be fun! I’m very dependent on Control Nathan Rabin 4.0 so I am grateful the overwhelming attitude behind them is “Here’s a neat, weird movie Nathan and his readers will enjoy discovering” rather than “here’s an eight and a half hour documentary about children who were molested during the Holocaust narrated by Ben Stein that are now required to subject yourself to!”
I hope to get to ALL of these in the year ahead. I might fail. I often do! But I’m really going to try to do things the right way this time around.
