The Nightmarish State of the Country and the Economy Ever So Slightly Contradicts Trump's Core Message of "I'm Doing Great!"

Those are all certainly words! Do they apply to Trump?

As I have written about extensively in this blog, Trump’s pitch to voters as a presidential candidate in 2016 was essentially, “I will lower your taxes and protect you from the scary brown people who want to steal your job, rape your wife, murder your dog, turn your son trans and move next door in order to lower your property values and destroy your Suburban Lifestyle Dream.” 

That remained Trump’s core message as President and it’s not surprisingly what he’s running on for re-election as well. But the moment Trump took office he and his flunkies began VERY aggressively promoting an equally important message: Donald Trump is doing GREAT. INCREDIBLE! FANTASTIC! LITERALLY THE BEST OF ALL TIME! BETTER THAN GEORGE WASHINGTON, ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND FDR!

Actually, Trump began promoting the “I’m doing GREAT” line even before he took office by angrily insisting that he would have won the popular vote in addition to the electoral college if only it weren’t for all that phantom electoral “cheating” that has plagued his presidency and threatens the next election as well.

Trump is so concerned that the Democrats will rig the election that he has very sensibly taken the radical step of preemptively rigging it himself in his own favor. That’s what Trump’s obsession with inauguration crowd size was all about, as well as his angry insistence that negative coverage of him invariably represents “Fake News.”

Not only does the non-right-wing media NOT promote the fiction that Trump is doing a GREAT job, world-class, really, it depicts the myriad ways that Trump is perpetually fucking up at the most important job in the world. 

It was easier to promote the idea that Trump was doing GREAT when the economy was thriving and tens of thousands of people weren’t dying preventable deaths due to a pandemic that shut down society and tanked the economy. 

Yet Trump’s heinous mishandling of the COVID-19 crisis has unsurprisingly done nothing to keep him from angrily insisting in every interview and press conference that, contrary to what the Democrats and their close allies in the lamestream media might illustrate incontrovertibly every day, he’s actually doing GREAT with an overblown hoax of crisis that’s nearly over anyway, so why not reopen everything immediately? 

Rather than confront the ego-shattering reality that by seemingly every reasonable criteria he is doing the exact opposite of great, Trump has chosen to live in an alternate universe where the US is getting high marks from unnamed sources for their impeccable response to COVID-19 and is the envy of the world due to its high rate of testing. 

Nothing can change Trump’s core conviction that he’s always doing great no matter how transparently badly he’s doing because it is not based on reality or genuine confidence. 

Instead, Trump’s deranged conviction that he’s the best president ever is the product of the desperate insecurity that is the flip side to crazed narcissism. Deep down, Trump knows damn well that he is a coward and a fraud and a fool who cannot begin to measure up to authentic men of accomplishment and achievement like Barack Obama. 

So rather than acknowledge his own shortcomings and failings, Trump pretends he does not have them. 

Trump is perpetually screaming into the void, “I’M DOING GREAT!” and having his flunkies and sycophants hammer home the same message because he knows how badly he’s doing and to acknowledge so for even a moment would cause the whole house of cards that is Trump’s delusional mind to completely fall apart.
