Donald Trump Is the Richest, Best Billionaire Ever and Also He Needs You to Give Him Your Money

It’s fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A, it’s fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A: MAGA People

I read that when Donald Trump was being roasted on Comedy Central, he reportedly had one demand. Comedians could make fun of his hair, his vulgarity, and his apparent sexual attraction to his daughter, Ivanka, all they’d like. What Trump could not abide, however, were jokes about him not being as rich as he claimed to be.

What bothered Trump the most was acknowledging that, as a core component of his public persona, he pretends to be much richer than he actually is.

Trump is undoubtedly apoplectic about being busted for fraud linked to wildly overestimating the value of his properties. This wounds the disgraced, twice-impeached ex-president because he believes that his properties are worth whatever he says they’re worth, regardless of what the rest of the world thinks.

This helps explain how Trump Social, a failing site whose only real strength is that it is, for the time being, the exclusive social media outlet for Trump’s Aderrall-addled outbursts, could be valued at eight billion dollars when its stock became public despite making about three million dollars in the first nine months of 2023 and taking a loss of 49 million dollars in the same period.

I'm no economist, just a man with the world’s lowest credit score, but the only reason to buy stock in a money-losing failure like Truth Social would be to support the president financially in a way that circumvents laws governing campaign finance.

Jay Ritter, a professor at the University of Florida, told ABC News, “Truth Social is not attracting and holding users, and it’s not attracting significant advertising revenue. Its current business model is a colossal failure.”

In a classic Trump move, he is now counting upon his army of cultists to pretend, with their wallets as well as their words and their guileless online enthusiasm, that his colossal failures are huge successes.

That toxic, self-aggrandizing instinct is behind his stubborn refusal to accept that he lost the presidential election in 2020 and that he was not the blameless victim of the greatest cover-up/crime in American political history.

Beyond being the current proud home of Trump’s all-caps public tantrums, Truth Social’s appeal is that it is a right-wing social media designed to be a MAGA-friendly corrective to what was seen as the “Woke" far-right wing extremism of Twitter and its former leader, Jack Dorsey.

I imagine that Trump is a diligent and details-oriented editor. He’s a hardass, but he gets results.

Then Elon Musk bought Twitter and rebranded it as a right-wing, MAGA-friendly corrective to what Musk delusionally thinks of as the Woke hatefulness of Twitter under the old regime.

Musk used to pretend to be a moderate or independent for Tesla’s stock price and reputation and to get non-fascist women to sleep with him, but he abandoned that charade before he bought Twitter and changed its name to X. That’s short for XTremely Conservative and XTremely Hateful.

So even though Musk is Trump’s ideological ally and clear choice for the 2024 presidential election (although he’s such an asshole contrarian that he’ll probably claim that he voted for Kanye), Trump hasn’t just held him at arm’s length: he’s actively mocked him.

On Truth Social, Trump said of Musk, “I could have said, ‘drop to your knees and beg,’ and he would have done it.

Trump reportedly tried to sell Truth Social to Musk and/or flat out asked him for money for his many expenses recently, but Musk has said that he won't donate money to either candidate this season. He'll only help Trump in that 80 percent of his tweets will be about how Biden is evil, woke, and secretly trans, and he wants to force you to adopt Muslim trans orphans from countries that hate the United States and are committed to its downfall.

Paying ridiculous prices for a business with seemingly no path to profitability is a way to shovel money into Trump’s pockets without having to worry about campaign finance laws.

At the risk of giving Trump the harshest possible criticism, even Nathan Rabin’s Happy Place seems to be doing better than Truth Social.

It’s also a way of showing support for the president that makes him seem more successful than he actually is, which is the kind of support Trump prizes most of all, particularly if paired with his beloved election interference lies.

The same is true of those dumb NFTs of homoerotic AI “art” of the former president pretending to be a tough guy in various poses. It’s also true of his dumb gold sneakers.

With Trump’s shoes, you can at least point to a physical product that is being made that you can hold in your hands and wear on your feet. The same cannot be said of Trump’s NFTs and Truth Social stock, although the president cannot sell his shares for six months, at which point they will presumably be even more worthless than they are now.

Trump is currently experiencing what my father would call a cash-flow crisis, but his fans are ready to pick up the slack. A GoFundMe to cover Trump’s legal expenses has raised over two million dollars.

That’s nowhere near its goal, but that’s still millions of dollars for a delusional, rage-fueled billionaire.

That's the crazy thing about Trump. He desperately wants, no, needs the world to believe that he's the most successful, dynamic, rich, and innovative businessman ever, but he also needs you to give him your money for reasons, something that did not begin or end with Trump University, a sham institute of higher learning that, like much of the rest of Trump’s empire of dust and hot air, is less an honest business than a low-key criminal enterprise.
